an update on our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts

at amika, we're committed to cultivating a world where all hair and humans are truly welcome. diversity, equity, and inclusion is (and always has been!) at the heart of who we are, which is why we have an internal Diversity, Equity, Inclusion &Giving Back committee, plus regular panels and programs dedicated to bringing these values into action.each year, we commit to giving back 1% of profits to causes focused on increasing equity in the beauty + professional hair industry.we’re devoted to caring for more than just your hair with powerful purposes that serve our community and our environment. let's take a moment to dive into some of our latest initiatives that spotlight these values at amika and beyond.

ongoing equity + impact programs

our equity and impact vision is simple: we aspire to increase equity in the beauty + professional hair industry, and we’re doing it by creating programs giving direct support, funds, and mentorship to people and brands who reflect our brand values. our flagship equity + impact programs paving the way for the next generation of hair industry professionals is the amika x Beauty Changes Lives Friend to Hair Stylist Scholarship Program and the amika Rooted in Growth Program.

as a salon-grown brand, our Friend to Hair stylist scholarships allow us to invest in the next-generation of BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ hair stylists–with the goal of increasing equity in salons and chairs. we’ve been able to donate $160,000 to date, and we’re just getting started!

the Rooted in Growth Program is our bespoke grant + mentorship program for emerging professional hair brand founders. through it, we’ve been able to support emerging professional hair brand founders that inspire us as we innovate and build the future of hair and a more equitable beauty industry for all! our 2024 recipients have recently been announced and they include industry pioneers like Sienna Naturals, Naturally Drenched, Kazmaleje, and Richualist. each have been given a $50k grant (doubling our financial impact from last year!), 1-on-1 mentorship opportunities with the amika executive leadership team, and other group mentorship offerings as they continue to build their brands.

nothing excites us more than connecting with entrepreneurs who have long-term aspirations for their business, and it’s been a gift to support them as their ambitions come to life.

HairToStay

in addition to our impact programs, we’ve been longtime supporters (6 years and counting!) of HairToStay, a nonprofit organization committed to raising awareness and financial aid for scalp cooling, a treatment which can reduce hair loss during chemotherapy. we are thrilled to support an organization that shares our belief in welcoming all people and caring for all hair types—no matter the situation.

love for NYC

we’re Brooklyn born and raised (and proud of it!), and we make a point to dedicate funds towards grassroots organizations and causes that align with our brand values *and* share our home turf. The Brooklyn Children’s Theatre, Brooklyn Pride, and Styles 4 Kidz are just a few of the organizations we’ve developed ongoing partnerships with who support underrepresented communities and celebrate creativity, self-expression and inclusion in the heart of our hometown.

Our company celebrates cultural heritage months to recognize and honor the unique backgrounds and stories of our team members, helping create a workplace where everyone feels seen and appreciated. By doing so, we’re not only promoting inclusivity but also strengthening our commitment to equity and making a positive impact in the communities we serve.
