New year, new you! After making it through a harried holiday season, it’s time to release (woooosaaaa!), relax and rejuvenate your mind, body, soul and yep, even your hair. A new year calls for getting rid of old habits and breaking in new ones and obviously we think your hair should be in on this action.

Here are some of the top DO’s and DON’Ts to keeping your hair looking awesome this year:

DO press the detox button on your scalp

Hopefully, all of those holiday hair styling sessions haven’t placed too much havoc on the scalp (because healthy scalp = healthy hair). The start of a new year is the perfect time to create a clean scalp slate. Start by applying our reset pink charcoal scalp cleansing oil to dry, unwashed hair. This oil-to-foam wonder contains French Pink Clay and Charcoal to absorb unwanted dirt, toxins and pollutants from the scalp; Indian Cress, Sunflower Oil and Sea Buckthorn Oil to promote antioxidants, encourage oxygen flow and provide moisture. DON’T apply heat to your hair without first protecting it

Leave the heat damage in the past. Yes, it’s an extra step, but honestly using heat protectant before heat styling your hair is probably the best way to minimize damage. That’s because heat protectant adds moisture and creates a protective barrier around the cuticle to prevent damage while adding shine. The blockade heat defense serum is heavy enough to protect the hair from heat, yet light enough not to weigh it down.

DO schedule regular trims

If your hair is starting to look a little lackluster (i.e. devoid of shine) and dry, then it’s probably time to get your ends trimmed. Split ends happen when the hair cuticle becomes damaged and begins to wear off exposing the delicate inner layer which easily becomes weakened. Getting regular trims every two to three months helps to keep split ends at bay and, in turn, will ensure it looks its healthiest best.

DON’T forget to use a deep conditioner

Yes, you might be using conditioner during your hair washing day sessions, but step it up a notch and start infusing strands with deep conditioning sessions. Why is this important? Because deep conditioners (versus your regular conditioner) contain ingredients specially formulated to provide a thorough conditioning of the hair. While it’s up to you as to when you want to do it (we suggest at least once every two weeks), deep conditioners will work to protect hair from unwanted damage and keep your strands looking and feeling its best.
